Arcadia Mine Community can be accessed from Harare either from the main A2 Harare to Mozambique highway or the main A3 Harare to Mutare highway. It comprises historical lithium, Gold and beryl workings within an existing agricultural area partially surrounded by hills.

Arcadia Mine is committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment for its employees, contractors, visitors and the general public and is committed to achieving a zero-incident work environment. Arcadia Mine complies with local and international regulations, including the IFC Environmental, Health and Safety Guidelines for Mining. The company is subject to annual local health and safety audits and on an ad hoc basis by shareholders who use internationally experienced Environmental and Health and Safety Consultants.

Arcadia Mine is one of the largest private sector employers in the region, with over 90% of the workforce being drawn from the local community. Arcadia Mine is committed to building skills and capabilities in the region, and has become a hub for local technical training.

 

Community Development

Arcadia Mine is committed to the social and economic development of the community. The tax and royalty payments Arcadia Mine makes to the national and local governments are a significant source of revenue for each, and go to fund infrastructure and social programs in the region. In addition to these payments, Arcadia Mine has built a primary and a secondary school, both of which are situated on the mine. Arcadia Mine also sponsors the local football teams and provides water and power infrastructure to the local community.

 

Environmental Impact

Arcadia Mine is environmental incident free. Arcadia Mine has a comprehensive environmental management system to monitor the effects of its operations on the environment and address any issues. Arcadia Mine complies with local and international regulations, including IFC Performance Standards on measuring, mitigating and reporting environmental impact, as well as IFC Environmental, Health and Safety Guidelines for Mining. Arcadia Mine has signed up to a European code on cyanide handling and usage and manages a complete closed water reticulation system.
